Linode
Straightforward Linux cloud servers, now run as part of Akamai’s cloud.
Linode is a cloud hosting provider that rents out virtual private servers, or VPS: your own private slice of a larger machine, running Linux. Today it is part of Akamai Cloud, and Linode LLC still appears on its site.
Alongside basic servers it offers managed databases, Kubernetes, storage, firewalls, load balancers and a DNS manager. Akamai’s focus on fast, spread-out applications shows in how the platform is described.
Linode sits in the same family as DigitalOcean, Hetzner and Vultr: you get a server, and the upkeep is up to you. Where they differ is mostly in locations, pricing and the wider platform around the server. It suits technical teams and agencies that want a steady, no-frills host.
