What is Etch?
Etch, in plain English.
Etch is a visual development tool for WordPress, made by Digital Gravy. The idea is to build sites visually while keeping the underlying markup tidy, accessible and easy for the next developer to understand.
It is aimed at the same crowd as other developer-focused builders: agencies and freelancers who want design freedom without a pile of messy code behind it. For a business owner, the payoff is a site that is easier to maintain, easier for search engines and screen readers to read, and less costly to change later.
Etch is young and moving fast. Its page lists version 1.7.0 at the time of writing. That energy is a plus, but it also means the tool is still settling in and has a smaller track record than Bricks or Oxygen. It is one to watch more than one to bet a project on today.

Why we use Etch.
Etch is on our radar because its focus on clean, accessible output matches what we care about. It comes from the team behind Automatic.css, which we already rely on. If it keeps proving itself, it could earn a place alongside Bricks.
Clean Foundations
Tidy, well-organised markup makes your site easier for the next developer to maintain.
Built for Accessibility
Accessible structure helps more visitors use your site, and helps search engines too.
Visual Building
Design happens on screen, so changes are quicker to review and approve.
