What is Ahrefs?
Ahrefs, in plain English.
Ahrefs is an online SEO platform for researching how sites are found on Google. SEO is the work of earning visibility in search. Ahrefs shows what keywords a site ranks for, which pages bring it traffic, and which other sites link to it. Those links are called backlinks.
Backlinks matter because Google treats them as votes of trust. Owners and marketers use Ahrefs to see where a competitor earns those votes, find keyword ideas, track rankings and audit a site for technical problems. It also tracks how a brand appears in AI search answers.
It is a paid subscription service used in a web browser, so nothing is installed on your site. It is bootstrapped, meaning it was built without outside investors, and its data comes from its own index of the web.
