What is HTML?
HTML, in plain English.
HTML is the language that describes what is on a web page: this is a heading, this is a paragraph, this is a button, this is a photo. Your browser reads those labels and draws the page. Every website you have ever visited, from a one-page brochure to a busy online store, is built on it.
HTML is not a program and it does not decide how things look. It only gives the page its structure and meaning. Colors, spacing and layout come from CSS, and interactive behavior comes from JavaScript. Think of HTML as the skeleton of the page.
It is free for anyone to use, and the standard is looked after by the WHATWG, a group of browser makers, so it works the same everywhere. Clean, well-labeled HTML matters to your business. Google reads it to understand your pages, and assistive tools use it so people with disabilities can use your site.
