What is VS Code?
VS Code, in plain English.
Visual Studio Code, usually called VS Code, is the program developers write code in. It is like a word processor made for code. It highlights the text in color, suggests the next word as you type, and points out typos and mistakes before they cause trouble.
What makes it useful is how much it can do in one window. It works with nearly every language, such as HTML, PHP and TypeScript. It has Git built in, so changes are tracked as we work, and it accepts add-ons for extra features.
Microsoft makes it and gives it away free. The editor you download is covered by a Microsoft license, while its source code is published as open source. You never see VS Code as a client, but it shapes your project: a good editor means cleaner code, fewer errors and quicker fixes.
In our stack
Why we use VS Code.
VS Code is where most of our work happens, from WordPress code to custom TypeScript applications. We rely on its error checking and Git tools to keep our code clean and well tracked. It is free, widely supported, and it does not tie your project to any special software.
Fewer Errors
Mistakes are flagged as we type, before they reach your site.
One Workspace
Every language and tool we use fits in a single window.
No Lock-In
Your code stays plain files, so any developer can pick it up.
