GitHub

Tech Stack / Version Control

DevelopmentPlatform

The online home for a project’s code, where changes are reviewed, backed up and shared with the team.

GitHub is a website where the code for a project is stored and managed online. It is built on Git, the tool that records every change, and adds the shared space around it: a safe copy in the cloud, a place to review changes, and a record of the work.

On a project, a developer proposes a change, a teammate reviews it, and only then is it merged into the main version. Each step is written down. GitHub also tracks open tasks and can run automatic checks, and it can trigger a launch of the finished site.

It began in 2008 and is now owned by Microsoft. For you, it means your project’s code is backed up off our computers, and nothing depends on a single person’s laptop.

Why GitHub Is in Our Stack

In Practice

We keep project code on GitHub so it is backed up, reviewed and easy to hand over. For custom applications like the Reno restaurant directory, it is also how finished changes move toward launch. If you ever need the code, there is a clear, complete record.

  • Safe Offsite Backup

Your project's code is stored in the cloud, not on one laptop.

  • Reviewed Changes

Updates are checked before they reach your live site.

  • Easy Handover

A complete, organized record makes it simple to pick up the project later.
