What is Next.js?

Next.js, in plain English.

Next.js is a framework for building full web applications on top of React. It supplies the parts every serious application needs: pages and addresses, loading data, user accounts and talking to a database. Without it, a developer has to assemble all of that by hand.

It can prepare pages on the server before they reach the visitor, so they appear fast and search engines can read them. That is why it suits public sites with real functionality, such as directories, member portals and online tools, not just brochure pages.

Next.js is free and open source under the MIT license. It was first released in 2016 and is led by Vercel, the company that also hosts many Next.js apps. Choosing it means your application sits on a mainstream foundation with a large community behind it.

In our stack

Why we use Next.js.

When a client needs more than WordPress can comfortably do, Next.js is where we go. We built the Reno restaurant directory platform on it. It lets us deliver a fast, searchable application with accounts and data, in one codebase that is easy to grow.

Fast Page Loads

Pages are prepared ahead of time, so visitors see content quickly.

Search Friendly

Search engines can read your pages fully, even in a rich application.

One Project

Screens, logic and data access live together, which keeps things simpler.
