What is Staging Site?
Also called: staging environment
A staging site is a private copy of your website used to test changes and new features before they go live, so mistakes never reach customers.
A staging site is a duplicate of your live website, kept private, where changes can be built and tested. Updates, redesigns, new plugins and new features are tried there first. When everything works, the changes are moved to the live site.
It protects your business. Updating a live site directly risks breaking checkout, losing form submissions or showing errors to customers. A staging site lets you catch problems quietly, and lets you review work before it goes public.
Good staging needs discipline. It should be hidden from search engines so duplicate content does not confuse Google, and protected so only your team can see it. We use staging for every build and major update, and you get a private link to review work before launch.
Example
Before a new booking form goes live, your team tests it on the staging site and spots a typo and a broken button.
