What is Drupal?
Drupal, in plain English.
Drupal is a free, open source content management system, the software that stores and publishes a website's pages and content. It was first released publicly in 2001 and is maintained by a worldwide community, supported by the non-profit Drupal Association.
It is used by organisations with a lot of content and a lot of rules: government agencies, universities, media companies and large non-profits. Drupal handles many kinds of content, many editors with different permissions, and multiple languages, with thousands of add-on modules to extend it. A newer product, Drupal CMS, aims to make it friendlier for marketers and content teams.
The cost of that depth is complexity. A Drupal project usually takes more time and developer skill than WordPress, so it makes sense when the requirements are large, not for a simple business site.

Why we use Drupal.
Drupal shines on very large, rule-heavy sites with many editors and strict publishing steps. For most small and mid-sized businesses, WordPress gets you there faster and costs less to run, and we say so.
Built for Complexity
It copes with lots of content, many editors and detailed permissions.
No License Fees
The software is free, and a worldwide community maintains it.
Proven at Scale
Governments, universities and media companies rely on it every day.
