What is Google Tag Manager?
Google Tag Manager, in plain English.
Google Tag Manager is a free tool from Google for managing the small tracking snippets on a website, called tags. A tag might send visits to Google Analytics, record a form submission for your ad account, or fire an advertising pixel.
Without a tag manager, each snippet gets pasted into the site's code by a developer. With one, the site carries a single container, and you add, change or pause tags from a web dashboard. Google's page highlights preview and debug tools, error checking, and workspaces so marketing and IT can work together.
That means a new campaign does not wait on a code change. It also keeps your site tidy: one place to see everything that tracks visitors, instead of snippets scattered across templates and plugins. Tag Manager itself does not report anything. It delivers tags to tools like Google Analytics, which do.

Why we use Google Tag Manager.
We use Tag Manager on most client sites so tracking lives in one place that we can test before it goes live. When you want to measure a new button, form or ad campaign, we can usually add it without touching the site's code.
Faster Campaign Launches
Marketing changes go live from a dashboard, without waiting on a code update.
Preview Before Publishing
Each tag is tested first, so a tracking mistake never reaches your live site.
One Tidy Home
Every tracking snippet is listed in one place instead of buried in the site.
