What is Linode?
Linode, in plain English.
Linode is a cloud hosting provider that rents out virtual private servers, or VPS: your own private slice of a larger machine, running Linux. Today it is part of Akamai Cloud, and Linode LLC still appears on its site.
Alongside basic servers it offers managed databases, Kubernetes, storage, firewalls, load balancers and a DNS manager. Akamai's focus on fast, spread-out applications shows in how the platform is described.
Linode sits in the same family as DigitalOcean, Hetzner and Vultr: you get a server, and the upkeep is up to you. Where they differ is mostly in locations, pricing and the wider platform around the server. It suits technical teams and agencies that want a steady, no-frills host.

Why we use Linode.
Linode is a solid option and one we know how to work with. We reach for it when a client already has an account there or wants Akamai's network behind their application.
Plain and Predictable
Simple server plans with few surprises when the bill arrives.
Established Platform
A long track record and a large company behind it add confidence.
Extra Services
Databases, firewalls and load balancers are available when a project needs them.
