FAQ

Social Share Preview Checker questions.

What are Open Graph tags?
Meta tags in a page's head, like og:title, og:description and og:image, that tell social networks and chat apps what to show when someone shares the link. They were introduced by Facebook and are now widely read.
What size should the share image be?
A common recommendation is about 1200 by 630 pixels, a ratio of roughly 1.91 to 1. Networks differ and change their rules, so treat it as a guide. Very small images are often ignored or shown as a thumbnail.
I fixed my tags but the old preview still shows. Why?
Most networks cache the first version of a link they see. Each has its own debugger or refresh tool for clearing it, and some caches clear on their own after a while.
Why can't the tool see my tags?
It reads the page's HTML the way a basic crawler does, without running JavaScript. Tags added by script after the page loads usually won't be seen by share scrapers either. Sites that block automated requests may also not answer.
What do you do with the page I enter?
Our server fetches the page and its share images, reads the tags, and returns the result to you. Private network addresses are blocked, and the page and images are not kept. Checks are limited per visitor to prevent abuse.
