What is Cost Per Click?

Also called: CPC

Cost per click is what you pay each time someone clicks your ad. It varies by industry, keyword and competition, and it drives your cost per lead.

Cost per click, or CPC, is the amount you pay an ad platform each time a person clicks your ad. In Google Ads, you set a bid, but the actual price depends on an auction that weighs your bid, your ad quality and your competitors.

CPC alone does not tell you whether your ads are working. A cheap click that never turns into a lead is worse than an expensive click that becomes a customer. The number to watch is how much you pay for each lead or sale, which combines CPC with your site's conversion rate.

You can lower CPC by improving ad relevance, choosing keywords carefully and sending people to a landing page that matches the ad. A better page can reduce what you pay for the same position. We manage campaigns with the full cost of a lead in mind, not just the click price.

Example
If one in ten of the people who click becomes a lead, each lead costs about ten times your cost per click, before you count the sale.
