What is DNS?
Also called: Domain Name System
DNS is the internet's address book. It connects your domain name to the servers that run your website and your email.
DNS stands for Domain Name System. Computers find each other using numeric addresses, but people use names like yourcompany.com. DNS translates between the two. When someone types your domain, DNS tells their browser which server to ask for your site.
DNS records also control other services tied to your domain, including where your email is delivered and which services are allowed to send mail for you. A wrong setting can take down your website or send your email to the wrong place, so changes should be handled with care.
Most owners never touch DNS until they change hosts, switch email providers or launch a new site. That is when mistakes happen. We manage DNS changes as part of launches and migrations and plan them to avoid downtime for your customers.
Example
When you move your website to a new host, the DNS record is updated so your domain points to the new server.
