What is Domain Authority?

Also called: DA

Domain Authority is a score from the SEO tool company Moz that estimates how well a site might rank. Google does not use it as a ranking factor.

Domain Authority is a score from 1 to 100 created by Moz, a software company. It predicts how likely a website is to rank in search results, based mostly on the quantity and quality of links pointing to it.

It is a comparison tool, not a Google metric. Google has said it does not use any such score to rank pages. Other tools offer similar numbers under different names. Treat them as rough indicators, useful for comparing your site against competitors, not as a goal in themselves.

Chasing a score can lead to bad choices, like buying links. A better focus is the thing the score tries to measure: earning real links and mentions from relevant sites. We look at these metrics as a rough guide, but we judge success by rankings, traffic and leads.

Example
You compare your site's score with three local competitors and see you trail them mostly because few reputable sites link to you.
