What is ERP?

Also called: Enterprise Resource Planning

An ERP is a system that runs core operations like inventory, orders, accounting and scheduling in one place, so departments share the same data.

An enterprise resource planning system, or ERP, combines the main back-office functions of a business in one platform. These can include finance, inventory, purchasing, sales orders, production, scheduling and reporting.

The main benefit is a single source of truth. When sales, operations and accounting all work from the same data, there are fewer errors and less time spent reconciling spreadsheets. Owners get better visibility into costs, stock and performance.

Large ERP packages can be expensive and heavy, and smaller companies sometimes pay for far more than they use. Others find that a generic ERP does not fit their process. A custom or lightly customized system, connected to the tools you already like, can be a better match. We help you work out what you actually need.

Example
A distributor uses one system so that when a sale is entered, inventory updates, a purchase order is suggested and accounting is notified.
