What is Mobile-First Design?
Mobile-first design means planning a site for phones first, then expanding it for larger screens, because most visitors and Google both start on mobile.
Mobile-first design is an approach where you design for the smallest screen first and add features as screen size grows. It forces you to decide what matters most, because a phone has little room for clutter.
It matches how people behave and how Google works. Many of your visitors will arrive on a phone, often in a hurry, looking for a number, an address or a quick answer. Google also uses the mobile version of a site as the main one for indexing and ranking.
Mobile-first is more than shrinking a desktop layout. It means large tap targets, readable text, simple forms, fast loading and tap-to-call buttons. We design and test on real phones, because a site that looks fine on a desktop can be frustrating in your hand.
Example
A restaurant's phone layout puts hours, the address map and a Call Now button at the very top.
