What is Magento?
Magento, in plain English.
Magento is an online store platform for businesses with a large or complicated catalog. Today it comes in two forms from Adobe: Magento Open Source, the free base version, and Adobe Commerce, the paid, fuller version that includes cloud hosting.
It is built for things a typical store never needs, such as running several storefronts from one back office, handling thousands of products, and setting up B2B pricing for wholesale customers. It is not a WordPress plugin. It is a separate system with its own hosting and its own developers.
That power comes with weight. Magento costs more to set up and maintain than WooCommerce or SureCart, and most small businesses will never use what it offers. Choose it when your catalog or sales process has outgrown simpler tools.

Wholesale Ready
Supports business buyers with the pricing and ordering rules they expect.
Room to Upgrade
Start with the free edition and move to Adobe Commerce as needs grow.
