What is Stripe?
Stripe, in plain English.
Stripe is a payment service. When a customer enters a card number on your site, Stripe is the company that securely processes it and sends the money to your bank account. It says it is used by more than 5 million businesses.
What sets Stripe apart is how well it connects to other software. A developer can build payments straight into a custom application, including one-time purchases, monthly subscriptions and automatic renewals. Online stores like WooCommerce, SureCart and North Commerce also use Stripe to take payments.
Stripe is not a store itself. It handles the payment step, and the store or app decides what is being sold. Stripe charges its own processing fees, so it is worth reading its current terms. For most websites and apps that take payments, it is the first option we look at.

Why we use Stripe.
Stripe handles subscriptions and payments in the restaurant directory application we built, where businesses pay to be listed. We choose it for custom applications because it is dependable, well documented and gives us full control over how customers pay.
Subscriptions Handled
Monthly billing and renewals run automatically, so nobody chases payments by hand.
Built for Custom Apps
Payments connect directly into your own application, so checkout feels like part of it.
Money Reaches You
Card payments are processed securely and paid out to your bank account.
