What is Cloudflare R2?
Cloudflare R2, in plain English.
Cloudflare R2 is cloud storage for files. Photos, logos, menus, videos and documents that an application needs to keep are stored in R2 and delivered to visitors when a page asks for them. This kind of storage is called object storage, and it suits large collections of files far better than a database.
Most cloud storage charges you each time a file is sent out to a visitor. R2 does not charge for that outgoing traffic, called egress. You pay for what you store, not for how popular your images are, so a busy month does not bring a surprise bill. R2 also works with the same tools built for Amazon's S3 storage, which means you are not locked in.
For a directory or store with thousands of images, this keeps running costs predictable. It also pairs naturally with Cloudflare's network, which helps files reach visitors quickly.

Why we use Cloudflare R2.
We choose R2 for media-heavy applications, like the thousands of restaurant photos in Reno Restaurant Guide. Predictable storage costs matter for a client whose traffic may grow, and the S3-compatible design means your files can move elsewhere if you ever need them to.
No Download Fees
Popular pages and busy months do not push your storage bill up.
Predictable Costs
You pay for what you store, which is easy to forecast as you grow.
Not Locked In
It speaks the standard storage language, so your files stay portable.
