What is Serverless?
Also called: serverless functions
Serverless is a way of running code where the provider handles the servers and only runs your code when needed, so it can scale and cost less when idle.
Serverless does not mean there are no servers. It means you do not manage them. You write small pieces of code, often called functions, and the provider runs them on demand, handling capacity, scaling and maintenance behind the scenes.
For business owners, the appeal is efficiency. A site or app can handle a sudden rush of users without anyone resizing a server, and you generally pay for actual use instead of for a machine sitting idle. It also reduces the infrastructure work your team must maintain.
It is not right for everything. Long-running jobs and some workloads fit traditional servers better, and costs can surprise you at very high volume if not watched. We use serverless where it helps, such as form handling, integrations and background tasks on modern sites.
Example
When a visitor submits a quote form, a small serverless function runs for a moment to save it and send an email, then stops.
